Broadway Easy Chair by Torbjørn Afdal

The 'Broadway' easy chair was designed by Torbjørn Afdal and produced by Svein Bjørneng from 1958. The chair won Gold medal at the So Wohnt Europa, München, 1959. Outstanding shape with teak frame and streched natural leather hide in the back and matching seat leather pillow. A rare find in good vintage condition with minimal wear to both frame and upholstery. ———— Torbjørn Afdal started as a designer at Bruksbo Tegnekontor in 1946 and was among the most prolific post-war Norwegian designers. His work is characterised by a refined understanding of shape and material. He received the gold medal at the 1959 craft fair So wohnt Europa in Munich for work including the dining set Form. Around 1960, Afdal’s furniture design took on a more architectural style, exemplified by armchair Broadway and hunting chair Hunter, two of his artistic highlights from the period. Considered among Afdal’s classics are Krobo, a multi-purpose bench, Times liquor cabinet and Minerva range of conference furniture. Afdal also functioned as Artistic Director of Bruksbo furniture workshop at Plus in Fredrikstad.
